Calin Lupanu

  • Concertmaster of the Charlotte Symphony, Colorado Music Festival, Member of the Lipatti String Quartet from 1990-2000, Prizewinners at the London International String Quarter Competition, the Dmitri Shostakovich Competition, the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
  • As a member of the Lipatti Quartet, performed at the Opera Comique in Paris, France for the Dmitri Shostakovich Foundation in the celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the composer's Birth.
  • Lipatti Quartet toured in the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, and Romania.
  • Collaborated with the Fine Arts Quartet, Lynn Harrell, Olga Kern, Andrés Cárdenes, Orion Wiess

Monica Boboc

  • Member/Violinist with Charlotte Symphony and Colorado Music Festival

Alaina Rea

  • Violist Alaina Rea joined the Charlotte Symphony as Assistant Principal Viola in September 2020
  • Alaina holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School and a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory
  • Her teachers have included Victoria Chiang, Choong-Jin Chang, Heidi Castleman, and Steven Tenenbom.
  • Alaina currently has a studio of private students and is on faculty at Gardner-Webb University.

Marlene Ballena

  • Cellist of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra
  • Cleveland Institute of music with professor Geber
  • Bachelors at University at Louisville
  • As a member of the Matisse String Quartet, worked with members of the Cleveland, Cavani, Tokyo, and Juliard String Quartets.
  • Performance certificate at Carnegie-Mellon University.
