Jon Lewis
The grand-prize winner of the 2007 Schadt International String Competition, American cellist Jon Lewis enjoys a diverse career that reflects his many musical interests. He currently holds the positions of Assistant Principal Cello in the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Principal Cello of the Central City Opera, and is a regular substitute with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Atlanta Symphony. Jon has performed as a recitalist throughout the United States, including several performances in Carnegie Hall. An avid chamber musician, Jon has been a featured performer at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago has performed on tour as a member of the Aiana String Quartet. Jon holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Cello Performance and a Master of Music (MM) from the New England Conservatory of Music. He also holds Bachelor of Music (BM) from Northwestern University. His major teachers include Hans Jorgen-Jensen and Paul Katz. His playing has been chronicled as “brilliant” and “a fine young cellist” by The New York Times and as “strong and dexterous” by The New York Sun.
